Fog/Cloudy Sessions

Session Tips

Don’t Let a Cloudy Forecast Dim Your Shine (Or Your Photos!)

You’ve waited for this day. Outfits picked, kids prepped, snacks packed… and then you check the weather: foggy or cloudy. Cue the panic?

Not so fast.

Let me be the first to say: clouds and fog are secretly the unsung heroes of outdoor photography, and your session is still going to be gorgeous. Let’s talk about why.

☁️ Clouds = Nature’s Softbox

Clouds and fog naturally diffuse sunlight, creating soft, flattering light that’s basically like shooting with a giant studio light in the sky. That means:

  • No harsh shadows (although yes, I love a dramatic shadow here and there!)
  • No squinting into the sun (and I’m very good at keeping sun out of eyes anyway)
  • Even, gentle light that flatters every skin tone

🌡️ Cooler Temps, Calmer Kiddos

A cloudy day often means more consistent, cooler temperatures, no sweating through your shirts or rushing to finish before someone melts (emotionally or otherwise). Everyone’s more comfortable, especially in summer. And if it’s really cold, blankets are key and I’ve got plenty to coordinate.

🕰️ Earlier Start Times = Better for Families

On sunny summer days, golden hour isn’t until 9pm (a tough ask for little ones on bedtime schedules). With overcast skies, we can start your session earlier and still get that dreamy, glowy look. Total win for tiny humans and tired parents.

🔥 I Bring the Warmth (If We Need It)

If your photos are feeling a little cooler than your vision, I’ve got you. I can add warmth during editing, so your gallery still feels like you, sun-kissed or not.

🌅 Golden Hour Isn’t the Goal, Connection Is

Sure, golden hour light is amazing and lovely. But here’s the truth: the most beautiful part of your session is YOU.
The real goal? Capturing connection. Snuggles. Laughter. Quiet glances. Joy.
That is what makes a photo timeless, not always the backdrop behind you.

So if the fog rolls in, don’t fret. Lean in. Breathe. I’ve got this.
The backdrop may shift, but the magic? It’s still very much happening.
